Despite considerable criticism by the US Media for its high operating costs and supposed performance shortfalls, the M1 Abrams proved to be an outstanding design and highly effective on the modern battlefield. With a few upgrades it soldiered on into the 1990s until completely replaced by the M1 MBT. A Cold War veteran, the M60A3 was a solid, reliable tank and popular with its crews despite its large size (almost 3 ft taller than the M1 Abrams!). Bradley The Bradley was developed largely in response to the Soviet BMP infantry fighting vehicles, and to combine the roles of both APC and fighting vehicle. The M2 Bradley was the standard infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), while the M3 Bradley Cavalry Fighting vehicle (CFV) was designed for use in the Armoured cavalry Regiments. The two vehicles looked very similar with the main visual difference being the design of the crew hatch on the rear hull roof.
